The fifth victim of a suspected drug-related shooting has died at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center after lying in a coma for 18 days. Kirk Robert Casillas, 23, never regained consciousness after the Oct. 28 shooting that killed his brother, two friends and his brother’s pregnant girlfriend.
Casillas died at 3:40 p.m. Monday. Like every victim in the Long Beach incident, he was shot in the head. Witnesses said four men wearing blue bandannas over their faces walked into a small rented home on East 68th Street through a back alley and methodically shot Casillas, his brother, Roy Anthony Casillas, 25; Veronica Gonzalez, 17; Roy Henry Jr., 19, and another man whose identity has not been released.
A memorial service, held for Casillas and Gonzalez less than a week later, was disrupted when gunmen shot into the crowd, injuring five others.
