Delta May Form New Subsidiary: The carrier confirmed that it is considering creating a low-cost, low-fare airline subsidiary as part of a plan to restore profit. Both American Airlines and United Airlines have also considered the strategy as a way to compete with carriers such as Southwest Airlines, which has grown rapidly by offering short-haul, low-fare flights. Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines also announced additional domestic service to New York’s Kennedy Airport to help boost its transatlantic business.
