WORLD IN BRIEF : RUSSIA : Yeltsin Says He Knew of Uprising Plans

Russian President Boris N. Yeltsin said he was fully prepared for the October uprising by hard-liners that ended in bloodshed. In an interview on German television, Yeltsin said he decided to dissolve Parliament after he was informed radical opponents planned to initiate a revolt around Oct. 6-7. Hard-line lawmakers refused to disband, and their supporters staged street riots. Government troops and tanks crushed them Oct. 4.
