Storm Stays Offshore,Dropping Little Rainfall

A second storm moved into Southern California on Friday evening, dropping rain on parts of Los Angeles County but causing no reported damage.

The showers began shortly before sunset, snarling traffic as commuters made their way home. However, the storm failed to deliver the punch that forecasters had expected.

Fire-torn areas of Malibu and Laguna Beach--already hit with mudslides this week--were left unscathed Friday.

“Most of the rain that we were supposed to get stayed offshore,†said James Ray, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Oxnard.

If the weather forecast holds, Southern California will get a respite from the threat of flooding this weekend and next week as the arctic storm blows over.
