* Name: Nancy Walters
* Position: President
* Company: Very Special Events, San Diego
Walters spends roughly half her time out of the office organizing corporate- sponsored programs and events throughout the United States and Canada. She offers these tips:
* If I’m hesitant about going up to a hotel room alone after returning during the evening, I ask the reception desk staff or concierge to provide someone to walk with me. Hotels have willingly provided this service the few times I’ve asked.
* When I eat at a great restaurant, I add it to my restaurant list, which I file by city on computer. I use the list to return to restaurants I enjoy and to entertain business clients. They are often impressed that I know the best places to eat in their cities.
* Rather than bring heavy presentations materials, I ask my office to send them to a hotel to hold for my arrival. My flights are less stressful without checking and carrying the materials.
* In New York, I don’t like dining alone. If I don’t meet a business friend for dinner, I ask the concierge to get me a ticket to a cultural event. It’s easy to get a good last-minute seat for one person.
