NHL ROUNDUP : Canadiens Booed by Home Fans in 1-0 Victory

The crowd booed at the Montreal Forum on Wednesday night, despite a victory for the home team.
The announced crowd of 16,500 complained of dull, uninspired play in the Montreal Canadiens’ 1-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Vincent Damphousse, who scored the game’s only goal in the first period, agreed with them.
“I don’t think we were ready for them,” Damphousse said. “They play a game that’s really quite boring. They don’t come in to put on a show for the fans.”
The Lightning, a second-year expansion team, clogged up the neutral zone and played for turnovers, a ploy that worked as it outshot Montreal, 37-21.
In the way, however, was goaltender Patrick Roy, who picked up the 22nd shutout of his career.
St. Louis 3, Winnipeg 0--Brendan Shanahan scored two goals and Curtis Joseph made 29 saves at Winnipeg to lead the Blues to their fourth consecutive victory.
Tony Hrkac broke the scoreless tie seven minutes into the second period with a blast from the blue line.
Calgary 6, Hartford 3--Joel Otto had three of the Flames’ four third-period goals and Mike Vernon had 37 saves at Hartford to extend the Whalers’ winless streak to nine games (0-8-1).
The Whalers have yet to win at home.
Toronto 6, Florida 3--Dave Andreychuk scored twice and Doug Gilmour had four assists as the Maple Leafs improved their league-best record to 11-1-1 and spoiled the Panthers’ first game in Canada.
N.Y. Rangers 6, Vancouver 3--Steve Larmer scored a goal in his Ranger debut and Sergei Nemchinov added two more goals at New York.
Vancouver had won all five of its games away from the Pacific Coliseum and was the league’s only unbeaten road team.
New York obtained Larmer, a right wing, from the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday in a three-team deal.
Ottawa 7, Edmonton 5--Alexei Yashin scored three goals, including the eventual game-winner at Edmonton, to extend the Oilers’ franchise-record winless streak to 12 games.
Pittsburgh 6, Buffalo 2--Jaromir Jagr scored a pair of goals, including the 100th of his career, in the victory at Sacramento before a crowd of 10,117, the largest of the three neutral-site games this season. Pittsburgh center Mario Lemieux, nursing a sore back, did not play.
