Nation IN BRIEF : MICHIGAN : Anti-Fortunetelling Law Is Attacked

Weather forecasters, stock analysts and even fortune cookies may violate a Michigan law against fortunetelling, says a legislator who introduced a bill to repeal the ban. State Rep. Dick Allen is aiming at a 1913 law that makes people who charge for attempting to foretell the future subject to a misdemeanor. He says the law infringes on First Amendment rights. Violators could be sentenced to 90 days in jail and a $100 fine.
