Voters Give Incumbent a 3rd Term on Ventura River Advisory Board

Appointed incumbent Thomas Jamison beat out political newcomer Kathy Sigafoos in the low-key race for the one available seat on the Ventura River Valley Municipal Advisory Council.
The panel, which makes land-use and planning recommendations to the County Board of Supervisors, had three seats up for reelection, but only Jamison’s was contested.
Jamison, who beat his rival by 245 votes or nearly 8% in unofficial returns, is traveling out of the country and could not be reached for comment.
But Sigafoos said she was pleased with her support. “I hope it might alert them to the fact that it isn’t just an appointed job,” she said Wednesday. “People should really earn those types of positions.”
Jamison, seeking his third term, won election for the first time because no one opposed him on previous ballots.
“If I’d spent a couple hundred dollars and bought some signs, I think that might have made the difference,” Sigafoos said.
