Bellflower : Fireworks Scrapped in Cityhood Celebration
- Share via
An annual fireworks display to celebrate Bellflower’s birthday has been canceled this year due to fire danger, a city spokesman said Wednesday.
The fireworks show was scheduled for the Liberty Day Celebration Saturday, which commemorates the day the city was incorporated in 1957.
But a call from the Los Angeles County Fire Department on Wednesday stopped the plan, city spokesman Ben Harvey said. With wildfires raging throughout the county, a display of fiery sparks in Bellflower was considered too dangerous.
City leaders are attempting to find a patriotic singer or band for the celebration, Harvey said, and the party will take place at T. Mayne Thompson Park at 14001 S. Bellflower Blvd.
