VENTURA : $33,000 Raised for Local CSUN Campus
A weekend fund-raiser for the Ventura campus of Cal State Northridge brought in $33,000 to help the satellite campus continue offering an array of classes this spring that were threatened by state budget cuts.
The telethon fund-raiser was held at the Oxnard studios of KADY television. It featured local talent and videotaped fund-raising appeals by actors Jack Lemmon, Ed Asner and Mary Steenburgen.
Organizers had hoped to bring in $43,000. Despite the $10,000 shortfall, organizers said they felt confident that they could raise the additional money.
“The telethon in itself won’t do it, but we have a number of other things planned,” said Dan Wakelee, assistant director of the Ventura campus. For instance, he said, campus boosters plan to sell a cookbook with recipes from local celebrities.
