This Week Servite Has No Trouble, Routs Westminster
FULLERTON — After receiving a scare from winless Ocean View last week, Servite had no problems in routing Westminster 31-6, in front of 1,800 Friday night at Titan Stadium.
Frank Patti scored four touchdowns to lead the Friars, who had managed just a 14-12 victory over Ocean View. David Martin passed for 160 yards and one touchdown.
The Friars’ Jason Traut intercepted a pass deep in Westminster territory to set up the first Patti touchdown, a seven-yard run.
On the Friars’ next drive it was Patti again, on another seven-yard touchdown run. Martin’s 58-yard screen to David Bedard helped set up the score.
Just before halftime, Servite (3-5, 3-2) benefited from a short punt, which gave the Friars the ball on the Westminster 44. Martin connected with David Watters on a 43-yard pass to give the Friars the ball on the one, and from there, it was Patti again, taking it in for the score to give the Friars a 21-0 halftime lead.
After Servite added a field goal, Westminster (1-7, 1-4) had its best drive of the game. Mike Vit, who replaced injured quarterback Jerry Allison, completed four passes for 60 yards, including a 10-yard touchdown pass to Quan Nguyen, for Westminster’s only score.
