SUNSET LEAGUE : Gonzalez Scores Three Times in Huntington Beach Victory
HUNTINGTON BEACH — Tony Gonzalez scored three touchdowns and Justin Flagg added two as Huntington Beach rolled past Ocean View, 42-14, in a Sunset League game Friday at Huntington Beach High School.
Gonzalez, a senior tight end, scored the first of six Oiler touchdowns on a six-yard run.
He lined up in the backfield on the play that completed a seven-play, 58-yard drive. The touchdown came with nine minutes 26 seconds left in the first quarter.
Gonzalez added touchdown receptions of seven and three yards from quarterback Levi Schuck for Huntington Beach (8-0, 5-0 in league) in the first half.
Gonzalez had six receptions for 102 yards and Schuck was 8 of 13 for 148 yards and three touchdowns.
Schuck, like many of the Huntington Beach starters, didn’t play in the second half.
The Oilers are the No. 2-ranked team in Orange County behind Los Alamitos and play at Westminster next Friday.
Flagg, a senior fullback, scored on 24-yard pass play from Schuck in the first quarter. He concluded the Huntington Beach scoring with a 15-yard run up the middle midway through the third quarter.
Ocean View (0-8, 0-5) got two touchdown passes from quarterback Fred Brown. The first was good for 50 yards to David Shaw with 3:52 left in the first half and made it 28-7.
In the fourth quarter, Brown completed a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ted Norman. Brown was eight of 13 for 111 yards.
