China May Attract $100 Billion: Foreign investment could reach $100 billion this year, double the 1992 level, the official China Daily newspaper reported. According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, overseas investment for January to June, which was $58.8 billion, will double by year’s end because of new contracts involving multinational companies. China’s foreign investment figures include foreign lending. Last year, contracted foreign investment was about $57 billion, about five times greater than 1991’s level.
