Opera Pacific in Costa Mesa reports that it has completed its seventh consecutive year in the black--though just barely. According to officials of the company, which presents opera at the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa, unaudited figures show “a small positive variance of $4,000†above operating expenses of more than $5 million for the fiscal year that ended Aug. 31. Ticket sales and other earned income amounted to $3.26 million; an additional $1.76 million came in contributions. Opera Pacific’s new season begins Jan. 15 with a one-performance-only presentation of Manuel Penella’s “El Gato Montes†with Placido Domingo.
