Morris Leads Calvary Chapel’s Rally to Upset Unbeaten Whittier Christian

CERRITOS — Calvary Chapel running back Trevor Morris sparked a second-half rally, rushing for 105 yards and a touchdown, to help the Eagles to a 17-10 victory over previously unbeaten Cerritos Valley Christian Friday at Valley Christian.
Valley Christian (5-1, 0-1 in league and ranked No. 1 in Southern Section Divison X) took a 10-0 lead at the half on a one-yard run by Alan Schmidt and a 25-yard field goal by Jeremy Hogan with five seconds left in the half.
But the Eagles (3-3, 1-0) shut Valley Christian down in the second half allowing no points and 31 yards total offense.
Calvary Chapel opened the second half with a 35-yard field goal by Aaron Fountain.
After an interception by Robert Hudson, the Eagles scored on a six from Waylan Kruse to Joe Jones that tied the score, 10-10, with 5:08 left in the game.
On the following kickoff, Fountain’s kick was left untouched and Hudson recovered it on the 19-yard line. Morris, who rushed 28 times for 133 yards, scored on a one-yard run to give Calvary Chapel a 17-10 lead with 2:06 left.
