A new inter-island airline will begin service Monday in Hawaii, offering passengers seven daily round trips from Honolulu to Lihue, Kauai, at walk-up rates substantially below Aloha and Hawaiian airlines.
Mahalo Airlines also plans to begin flights to Kahului, Maui, on Oct. 11 and service to Kona on the Big Island shortly thereafter.
One-way fares will be $42 for visitors, compared to $74 on Aloha and Hawaiian airlines. However, Stephanie Packerman, director of corporate communications for Aloha, said most tourists purchase package fares substantially below the walk-up price for inter-island travel.
On Oahu, Mahalo Air will operate from the new Honolulu Interisland Terminal. Tickets may be purchased at the Mahalo Air office, 90 Nakolo Place, Oahu, or at at Mahalo Air terminals. For reservations, call (808) 833-5555.
