Katella’s Goal-Line Defense Holds Off Estancia

ANAHEIM — Katella Coach Larry Anderson knew what to call it.
“It’s called luck,” he said.
And two goal-line stands helped, too.
Katella (3-1) survived a rally by Estancia (1-3) Thursday night at Glover Stadium, coming away with a 21-14 victory.
“We played stupid football,” Anderson said.
The same can’t be said about Katella’s goal-line defense.
The Knights’ Adam Calvert, Dave Barr and Aaron Marsh stopped Estancia quarterback Todd Thompson on the one-yard line on fourth down with 1 minute 58 seconds left.
The drive was set up when Jairo Arceyut intercepted a pass from Jared Wright and returned it 43 yards to the Katella nine-yard line.
The series before, Estancia got to the Katella five-yard line. But a touchdown pass from Thompson to Arceyut was nullified because of a holding penalty.
Juan Viramontes, on the next play, intercepted a Thompson pass in the end zone.
Katella scored first when Wright passed 11 yards to Viramontes.
Karlo Amaya, who rushed for 98 yards in 27 carries, scored for Estancia on a 10-yard run.
David Rojo blocked the conversion kick.
