It was a series that began in 1922 with a UCLA victory. Another came in 1923, and in 1924, when the Bruins were losing to La Verne and Whittier, they tied San Diego State, 13-13.

The Aztecs haven’t gotten that close since. UCLA leads, 15-0-1.

UCLA adds Tennessee and Southern Methodist in 1994 and Fresno State and Miami in 1995.

Craig Novitsky is expected to start his 38th consecutive game, this time at left tackle, replacing Jonathan Ogden (knee). Normally a left guard, Novitsky started at center at Stanford, replacing James Christensen, who also has a knee injury. Novitsky might become the first Bruin to start every game in a four-year career. . . . Brian Allen is scheduled to start at tight end.
