HUNTINGTON BEACH : Missing Girl, 17, Is Found in Mexico
A 17-year-old girl reported missing in July has been found unharmed in Mexico, police said this week.
No foul play is suspected in the disappearance of Gloria Rios, who police said has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old.
She was last seen on July 6 after attending a special-education class at Edison High School. Police said she disappeared after going to get aspirin from the school nurse.
Rios’ father reported her missing soon after but little progress was made in finding her until police received an anonymous call this month from a person who said Rios had been seen in a shelter in Tijuana, Mexico.
Huntington Beach police contacted Mexican authorities, who located Rios. She told police she wanted to remain in Mexico. She has been reunited with her father, who has decided that his daughter, who is a Mexican citizen, will be sent to relatives in southern Mexico.
