COLLEGE FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : USC : Robinson Gives His Two Points Worth

On the two-point conversion attempt that might have won the game for USC last Saturday at Penn State, sophomore tight end Johnny McWilliams was penalized for being an ineligible receiver downfield.

USC lost, 21-20, when McWilliams short-hopped the pass, thrown by quarterback Rob Johnson. On the previous play, he had caught a pass on a similar play for a touchdown with 37 seconds to play.

Speaking to a group of USC business students Tuesday, Robinson posed a question to his audience:

“Part of being a winner is playing the percentages properly, right?†he said.

“The two-point conversion play is a 35% to 40% proposition. If we’d made the play but had to do it over from the 18 (yard line) with a penalty, would we go for it again? From there, it’s 9% to 10%. You tell me.â€

Then, as an afterthought, Robinson said: “But let’s face it. If we’d made the play, would they have delayed the signing of the peace treaty in Washington? No.â€
