LOS ANGELES COUNTY : Supervisors Condemn Ads Using Graffiti Images
Contending that the media are exploiting graffiti-style images to boost sales, the County Board of Supervisors has called on the entertainment and advertising industries to refrain from using graffiti in promotions and programming.
A motion introduced by Supervisor Deane Dana scolds the media for glorifying graffiti taggers and asks that they instead “report on graffiti as the criminal activity it is without giving its perpetrators additional recognition.â€
“Graffiti is used in TV commercials and entertainment programming as if it is normal and acceptable, not the destructive vandalism which it is,†declares the motion.
