Teen-Ager Found Dead Alongside Railroad Tracks

Sheriff’s detectives were investigating the killing of a 16-year-old youth whose body was found early Wednesday alongside railroad tracks in El Monte.

The body of Francisco Javier Salas was discovered in an undeveloped area south of Hickson Street and east of Arden Drive, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said. He apparently died from a single gunshot to the upper body, she said.

The motive was unknown and the investigation, being conducted jointly with the El Monte Police Department, continued. Authorities were unsure if he died at the scene or if his body was dumped.
