CalPERS Mulling China Investment: The California Public Employees Retirement System, a major U.S. pension fund equipped with $17 million a day to invest, is eyeing China for the first time, the chairman of its investment committee said. CalPERS official Chuck Valdes is one of 100 U.S. pension fund and investment managers visiting Beijing for an investment conference. Together, the funds they manage control about $500 billion. CalPERS, which has actively urged U.S. companies to restructure, controls about $79 billion.
