Healy Signs With N.Y. Rangers
Former King goaltender Glenn Healy, the star of the New York Islanders’ surprising playoff success last spring, signed with the New York Rangers on Tuesday.
After leading the Islanders to the Wales Conference final, Healy was left unprotected in the expansion draft and selected by the Mighty Ducks. The next day, though, Tampa Bay took him in the second phase of the expansion draft.
The Lightning traded Healy’s rights to the Rangers for a third-round pick.
Healy, 31, is entering his seventh NHL season. He played two seasons for the Kings before signing with the Islanders in 1989 as a free agent.
Last season, Healy was 22-20-6 with a 3.30 goals-against average, then was sensational in the playoffs. He started all 18 games and posted a 3.19 average and an .887 save percentage.
