PRO FOOTBALL / DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Search for Another Wide Receiver Continues
The continuing saga of the search for another receiver took a few plot twists:
--The Rams claimed Tony Hargain off the waiver wire after Hargain was released Tuesday by the Kansas City Chiefs. Hargain, 6-0 and 194 pounds, was originally an eighth-round pick by San Francisco after sitting out most of his senior year at Oregon because of a knee injury. He came to the Chiefs via Plan B last year and had 17 catches for 205 yards.
--They had talked to the Cowboys about Jimmy Smith and are now glad negotiations didn’t go beyond talks. Smith had an appendectomy Wednesday and will be sidelined for three weeks.
--They waived receiver Joe Johnson, a free agent who played with the Vikings last season, to make room for Hargain.
--Former New York Giant Stephen Baker was at Rams Park for a tryout, but it’s not likely he will be signed.
“We’re bringing a lot of players in and taking a look at them,†Coach Chuck Knox said.
