2 Firemen Still on Critical List
Two Los Angeles County firefighters burned in a fast-moving brush fire that killed two others remained in critical but stable condition Sunday at the Sherman Oaks Community Hospital Burn Center.
Christopher Barth, 25, of Seal Beach, and Hector Gabriel Larios, 19, of Chino Hills were engulfed by flames as they and others tried to extinguish a blaze that blackened 100 acres in rugged Altadena Canyon. The brush caught fire Friday afternoon when the engine of a car parked along the roadside caught fire.
Two firefighters, Christopher Herman, 25, of Downey, and Arthur Ruezga, 33, of Valinda, were killed.
The fire, and questions of how the men became trapped, are under investigation by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the U.S. Forest Service and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. A report is expected in about a week.
