Berry, Booth Lead Their Divisions in Junior Golf

Chris Berry of Yorba Linda and Kellee Booth of Coto de Caza led their divisions after the third round of the Independent Insurance Agent Junior Classic golf tournament Monday at the Chenal Valley Country Club in Little Rock, Ark.

In the boys’ competition, Berry shot a two-under 70, and is tied for the lead with Michael Henderson of Raleigh, N.C. at 210. U.S. Open qualifier Ted Oh, from Torrance, shot a 74 and is nine shots back.

Booth, who won the USGA Girls’ Junior Championship earlier this month, leads the girls’ division after shooting a 73. Booth is three-over for the tournament.

Keridwen Cornelius of Scottsdale, Ariz., is in second place, one shot behind Booth at 220. Alicia Allison of Santa Ana, who was tied for first with Booth after two rounds, shot a 75 and is two shots back at 221.

Fountain Valley defeated Greensboro, N.C., 7-0, in the semifinals of the Colt World Series in Lafayette, Ind.

Fountain Valley pitcher Daniel Keller went the distance, allowing five hits, striking out five and walking two. Keller also had two hits and two runs batted in. Kevin Burford added two hits and two runs batted in.

Fountain Valley will play Maui, Hawaii, in today’s final. Maui beat Murietta, Ga., 3-1, in the other semifinal. Fountain Valley beat Maui, 7-0, in a pool play game Saturday.

Salvador Coreas, a reserve forward for the Salsa, will miss at least two weeks, team doctor Tomas Saucedo said Monday.

Coreas, 31, ruptured a tendon in his right leg Sunday during the Salsa’s 5-4 loss to Colorado. Saucedo will examine Coreas later this week, but the forward is not expected to return until the Sept. 4 game against Vancouver.
