Amal Hayati, Stateutte Win at Saratoga
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Amal Hayati won her second straight stakes and Statuette surived a claim of foul Friday as they each won a division of Saratoga’s Grade III Nijana Stakes for 3-year-old fillies.
Amal Hayati, ridden by Jerry Bailey, raced wide entering the stretch and then drew off to a three-quarter length victory over Eloquent Silver in the $94,900 first division. Irving’s Girl was another 1 3/4 lengths back in the 10-horse field.
Owned by Rashid Al Khalifa, Amal Hayati won Arlington Park’s Pucker Up Stakes in her last start on June 27. Amal Hayati covered 1 1/16 miles on the firm Main Turf Course in 1:40 4/5 to earn $56,940 and return $7, $4.20 and $2.60. Eloquent Silver paid $4.80 and $3, while Irving’s Girl was $3.40 to show.
Statuette, ridden by Mike Smith, prevailed in a driving finish with Icy Warning and Dispute and then withstood a claim of foul by Bailey, Dispute’s rider, to register a nose victory in the $93,300 second division.
Dispute was another nose behind in the three-horse photo finish.
