LOS ANGELES : 2.5 Million Ride Red Line in First 6 Months of Service
- Share via
Since the Red Line subway opened six months ago, it has carried almost 2.5 million people, transit officials reported.
Each weekday, about 15,000 passengers ride the first four-mile leg of the subway, which runs between Union Station and MacArthur Park. On weekends, about 10,000 ride the $1.4-billion line, transit officials said.
Although transit officials initially intended to raise the introductory fare of 25 cents to $1.10, they decided not to increase the fare in hopes of winning more passengers.
Los Angeles’ first modern subway opened Jan. 30. When the 22.7-mile system is complete, it will fan out in three directions with lines to the Eastside, North Hollywood and the Mid City, Pico/San Vicente area.
