Ford, Chrysler Plan Production Increases: The two Detroit auto makers are tentatively planning to boost fourth-quarter vehicle production levels 3% to 4% above year-ago levels, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports. Production for the October-December quarter could reach almost 2 million cars and almost 1.2 million trucks, if other U.S. auto makers follow suit. U.S. car output for 1993 could reach 6.6 million, the highest level since 1989, and truck output could reach 4.6 million, eclipsing the 1988 high of 4.1 million.
