SYDNEY, Australia — A 43-year-old British motorcyclist who had been traveling the world for three years was killed when his cycle collided with an emu in outback Australia, police said Monday.
Stephen Robert Cawthorne collided with the four-foot emu, a flightless bird, after overtaking a car towing a trailer near Mt. Surprise, 700 miles north of Brisbane, a police spokesman said.
Cawthorne had set out on his 1988 Yamaha motorcycle from York, England, in 1990 on a world tour that took him to Alaska, Brazil and Australia.
