Levitt Confirmed to Head SEC: Arthur Levitt Jr., President Clinton’s choice to head the Securities and Exchange Commission, won Senate confirmation to a five-year term as chairman of the agency that regulates securities markets. Levitt fills the seat left vacant by the departure of Richard C. Breeden. The Senate also confirmed two nominees to Clinton’s Council of Economic Advisers: Alan S. Blinder and Joseph Stiglitz.
