CAMARILLO : Lighting at Tennis Courts to Be Reduced

Anticipating a $230,000 funding cut from the state this year, the Pleasant Valley Recreation and Park District will save money by reducing the hours that it lights public tennis courts.

The district board voted last week to turn off the lights at district tennis courts at 9 p.m. instead of 9:30 p.m. for the rest of the summer.

During winter months, the district will light only half the courts at each of the three parks with tennis facilities: Mission Oaks, Pleasant Valley and Valle Lindo.

The district generally lights the tennis courts every day after dusk, which comes earlier in the winter, leading to higher electricity bills.

District General Manager Eldred E. Lokker estimated that reducing tennis-court lighting will save $8,000 to $10,000 on electricity costs each year.
