The Region : Sheriff’s Advisory Panels
In an effort to strengthen its ties to the community, the Sheriff’s Department is forming three advisory committees for unincorporated areas it serves in the San Gabriel Valley.
The committees will serve the South San Gabriel area, the San Gabriel-East Pasadena area and an area near Monrovia, Arcadia and Duarte.
The Temple Station has distributed more than 2,000 leaflets to encourage community participation.
The committees will have no formal powers to deal with complaints but will help the Sheriff’s Department improve public relations and help the community express concerns about crime to authorities. There are similar committees in areas patrolled by deputies from the Walnut Station.
Members of the newly created Monrovia-Arcadia-Duarte Town Council have voiced support for community advisory panels.
Applications for committee membership are available from the Temple Station, 8838 Las Tunas Drive, Temple City. The filing deadline is Monday.
