In Brief
* * * Various artists, “Sleepless in Seattle†soundtrack, Epic. Quirky versions of standards cleverly underscore the action in the ultra-romantic hit movie. It doesn’t get much weirder than Jimmy Durante crooning “As Time Goes By†or Joe Cocker overpowering “Bye Bye Blackbird.†But there are some conventional romantic tunes too, like Nat King Cole’s lush “Stardust†and Harry Connick’s perky “A Wink and a Smile.†An enjoyable collection even if you haven’t seen the movie, but at 37 minutes it’s way too short.
New albums are rated on a scale of one star (poor), two stars (fair), three stars (good) and four stars (excellent).
