Local governments are sponsoring a household hazardous waste collection for all Los Angeles city and county residents Saturday at the Los Angeles City College parking lot.
The free roundup of household hazardous waste is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 855 N. Vermont Ave. It is an opportunity to recycle or legally and safely discard unwanted household chemicals, according to officials at the city of Los Angeles Department of Public Works and the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.
Hazardous waste includes paint, motor oil, pesticides, cleaners and other common household chemicals labeled toxic, corrosive, flammable, irritant or poison. When improperly stored or illegally discarded through regular trash receptacles, sewer and storm drains, the chemicals become health, environmental and fire hazards, officials say.
Information: The Los Angeles hot line at (800) 773-CITY or the county hot line at (800) 552-5218.
