NATIONAL ROUNDUP : Cherokee Run Easily Wins Dwyer Stakes

Cherokee Run, in his first start since a sixth-place finish in the 1 1/2-mile Belmont Stakes, won the 1 1/8-mile Dwyer Stakes by six lengths at Belmont on Saturday.

Miner’s Mark was second, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Silver of Silver.

Cherokee Run, ridden by Pat Day, carried 123 pounds on a good track and was timed in 1:47 3/5. He paid $5.40, $2.80 and $2.10.

Miner’s Mark, ridden by Jerry Bailey, paid $2.80 and $2.20. Silver Of Silver, ridden by Jacinto Vasquez, returned $2.60.

Completing the order of finish were Tossofthecoin, As Indicated and Prospector’s Flag.

Wilderness Song won the $150,000 Molly Pitcher Handicap at Monmouth Park by 1 3/4 lengths over favored Quilma.

Ridden by David Clark, the Sam-Son Farms mare covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44 3-5. She was fourth in a field of six at the three-quarter pole, but skimmed the rail to gain a half-length lead in the stretch before drawing off.

Wilderness Song paid $12.40, $4 and $3.80. Quilma paid $2.80 and $2.60 and Looie Capote returned $5.

Miss Ra He Ra gained the lead at the top of the stretch and held off favored Ramblin Guy for a 1 1/4-length victory in the $117,200 Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs.

The only filly in a field of 13 2-year-olds, the Rahy filly covered the six furlongs under Willie Martinez in 1:12 4/5. She paid $18.80, $6.60 and $5.

Ramblin Guy, ridden by Martin Pedroza, closed from fourth at the top of the stretch and paid $3.40 and $3.00. Riverinn, a nose back in third, paid $5.80.

Thesunshinesbright took the lead at the top of the stretch and went on to win the $50,000 Governor’s Handicap at Ak-Sar-Ben at Omaha, Neb.

The 5-year-old by Bucksplasher stalked pace-setting Honor the Hero for much of the Grade III stakes over 1 1-16 miles. Jockey Garrett Gomez guided Thesunshinesbright into the lead near the head of the lane and won by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:44 4-5 over a fast track.

Honor the Hero ran second, finishing one length ahead of Queen’s Gray Bee.
