A Glendale woman and her 6-year-old daughter remained hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by a car as the two crossed a street in a crosswalk, police said.

Angelica Jaquis, 19, and Laura Griselda Martinez Sierra were both seriously injured, Glendale Police Agent Charles Follett said. Jaquis, who suffered from a broken pelvis, was in serious condition at County-USC Medical Center. Her daughter was in critical condition at Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, officials said.

The two had walked 25 feet into the crosswalk at Brand Boulevard and Lomita Street on Tuesday night when they were hit by a car heading south on Brand, Follett said. The car was driven by Bertha Morales, 48, of Glendale.

“She (Morales) was reading a road map looking for a specific street on the map,†Follett said. “She didn’t see the pedestrians on the roadway.â€

Morales was not cited or charged, pending a decision by the district attorney’s office, according to authorities.
