PANORAMA CITY : Camp Fire Girls, Boys to Shut Valley Office
Camp Fire Girls and Boys of Los Angeles will close its San Fernando Valley office Wednesday, increasing responsibility on local leaders for recruiting efforts.
A second office, in Downey, also will be shut down after the Fourth of July weekend, but Camp Fire Executive Director Marilyn Gilmore said neither area will lose its Camp Fire services.
“It won’t affect programming at all,†Gilmore said. “All the services will still go on in the Valley and in Downey.â€
Gilmore said the organization, which provides services for about 4,000 youths in the Valley, will save about $120,000 by closing the offices in Panorama City and Downey. The program has lost about $200,000 in funding during the past three years. Four part-time workers will also be laid off, and one retiring employee will not be replaced.
