A 38-year-old Simi Valley man was arrested early Friday after a break-in at the Chart House restaurant in Ventura.

Jerry Osborn, who was being held at the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of burglary and vandalism, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.

Police were called to the restaurant at 567 San Jon Road shortly after midnight after several employees who were standing in the parking lot heard someone trying to smash through the front door. The employees slipped back into the restaurant and called police from an office.

Ventura Sgt. Roger Nustad said the suspect pried open the restaurant’s cigarette machine and emptied its coins and then broke into a liquor cabinet, removing one bottle.

Officers arrested Osborn as he returned to his car on San Jon Road.

Police said they recovered a crowbar, wrench, coins and a bottle of liquor.
