Green PC’s Meager Power Appetite: Advanced Logic Research Inc. got to show its colors with Vice President Al Gore last week at a press conference in Washington.
The company, based in Irvine, displayed its Green PC, the ALR Flyer VL, which is rigged to consume less power than other computers. The machines sell for about $1,500 apiece.
Gene Lu, chief executive of the personal computer manufacturer, and two other executives attended the press conference marking the first anniversary of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star program. Federal agencies have established a policy to buy computers that carry the EPA Energy Star approval.
