Trash Pickup Day--Volunteers are welcome to join South Coast Audubon, a chapter of the National Audubon Society, in a trash pickup project at the La Novia Avenue bridge area of San Juan Creek in San Juan Capistrano. It will start at 8 a.m. and continue to noon.
Two field walks will also be held, at 9 and 10:30 a.m. The walks are a good opportunity to learn about the native and non-native plants in this stream habitat.
Willow and cottonwood trees line the creek’s banks and are home to a variety of bird species. Raccoon, skunk and other animal tracks have been found along the creek’s mud flats.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the area near the creek and bridge, on La Novia Avenue between Ortega Highway and San Juan Creek Road.
Walkers are asked to bring firm-soled shoes and sunscreen. Volunteers for trash pickup are also asked to bring gloves.
