The Moorpark City Council on Wednesday will consider applying for a $7,000 grant to fund a series of outdoor concerts planned for the summer of 1994.

Christine Adams, the city’s director of community services, will suggest the city seek the grant money from the Achille Levy Foundation, an organization formed by the Ventura-based Bank of A. Levy in 1969 to support community activities.

“It hopefully enriches the quality of life in Ventura County,†said Barbara Ross, the foundation’s administrator. The organization last year received about 150 applications for individual grants. About 37 individual awards averaging $4,000 were distributed, Ross said.

Moorpark Mayor Paul Lawrason said the funding would help the city increase its cultural offerings to residents in tight financial times.

“The cultural aspect of the community is something that we all have in mind, but it doesn’t ever seem to get as much attention as it deserves,†Lawrason said. “So this is an excellent opportunity, we think, to apply for the grant and provide the citizens with some cultural activities we would all enjoy and benefit from.â€

Adams said she is tentatively planning five concerts on alternating Sunday nights at the city’s Arroyo Vista Community Park, which is currently under construction. The city has until July 15 to apply for the grant, which would be awarded next fall, Adams said.
