2 Killed, 3 Hurt in Gang-Related Attack
Two men were killed and at least three were wounded in a gang-related shooting west of downtown, police said Sunday.
The incident occurred late Saturday night at an apartment building in the 1400 block of West 3rd Street, said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Robert Courtland.
A group of suspected gang members were “partying or hanging out†when they were surprised by rivals who opened fire on them, Courtland said
Found dead at the scene were Fernando Rieta, 22, who suffered a single gunshot wound, and Alfonso Vasquez, 18, who was shot in the back.
Three others were treated for wounds, including a 15-year-old who was shot in the back.
The suspected attackers, described as four teen-agers believed to be gang members, fled the apartment about 11:25 p.m. in a car that headed west on 3rd Street, Courtland said.
