Kuwait Digging Ditch Along Iraqi Border

KUWAIT CITY — Kuwait began digging a 130-mile trench Thursday along its border with Iraq to help protect the tiny emirate from its hostile northern neighbor.
The 10-foot-wide, 16-foot-deep ditch is to run along the border as set by the United Nations in November. The line has been rejected by Iraq. A 13-foot-high sand barrier is to be built behind the ditch.
