Hughes to Move Graphics Facility to South-Central L.A.: Hughes Aircraft Co. said it signed a five-year lease on an industrial building in South-Central Los Angeles as part of the company’s $18-million commitment to help the city recover from last year’s riots. The company this summer will move a major portion of its graphics reproduction operations from its present location within Hughes’ El Segundo facility to the leased building. The unit of General Motors Corp. said the facility will contain advanced equipment for high-speed printing, binding and other graphics reproduction operations. Minority-owned contractors will be used for design, engineering and construction at the site during the renovations. Further, wherever possible, community-based vendors and suppliers will be selected to supply the operation, the company said. The center’s work force will involve 26 current Hughes employees, but efforts will be made to hire from the community as future openings occur.
