Marjorie Henderson Buell; Creator of Little Lulu Cartoon

Marjorie Henderson Buell, 88, who created the mischievous little girl cartoon character Little Lulu. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Buell began drawing cartoons for the Philadelphia Ledger when she was 16. In 1934, the Saturday Evening Post asked her to create a weekly cartoon for the magazine’s back page, and Little Lulu was the result. Mrs. Buell retained control of the rights to the character, licensing spinoffs to comic books, 26 animated features, greeting cards, dolls, games, puzzles, toys and coloring books. Little Lulu became a daily syndicated comic strip in 1944. On Sunday in Elyria, Ohio, of lymphoma.
