Speaking of Clinton’s Connection
You can be sure that President Clinton’s Hollywood connection was on the minds of the entertainers and executives who belong to the Hollywood Women’s Political Committee:
* “It’s a cheap shot to go after Clinton on this,†executive director Margery Tabankin said Thursday night. “The whole obsession about Hollywood is overblown. We’re one more constituency that is trying to help him make the changes he wants to make.â€
* “I don’t see any reason why people in Hollywood should pretend they’re mindless just because people want to believe we’re one-dimensional,†said actress Alfre Woodard, a member of the organization. “I can go on and on, I’m so angry at the country right now. Nobody cared how close George Bush was to Arnold Schwarzenegger.â€
* “I don’t think there is such a thing as ‘Hollywood,’ †said Sidney Sheinberg, president of MCA Universal. “That’s like saying someone has a relationship with Jews or Southerners. There are a variety of people in Southern California--some are frauds . . . others are extremely dedicated people and I hope Clinton has the judgment to know the difference.â€
