VOLLEYBALL PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Royal Has No Trouble Getting Past Torrance
Top-seeded Royal swept past Torrance, 15-6, 15-3, 15-4, Tuesday in the second round of the Southern Section Division II boys’ volleyball playoffs.
Jason Hughes had 16 kills and Steve Hodge added 11 to lead Royal (18-0), which will face Canyon on Friday in a quarterfinal at a site to be determined. Torrance finished the season at 9-6.
Canyon d. San Marino, 15-10, 15-8, 5-15, 15-11--Brent Phillips had 16 kills and Brian Stires had 44 assists to lead the Cowboys (16-2) in a Division II second-round match at Canyon.
Village Christian d. Paso Robles, 15-3, 15-7, 15-7--Greg Walgenbach had 11 kills and 11 digs to lead the Crusaders (17-1), who have won 15 consecutive matches, in a Division III second-round match at Village Christian.
The Crusaders will play either Capistrano Valley Christian or St. John Bosco in the quarterfinals on Friday at a site to be determined.
L.A. Baptist d. Bishop Diego, 15-12, 11-15, 10-15, 16-14, 15-4--Dusty Stamp had 27 kills and six service aces to pace visiting L.A. Baptist in a Division III opener. Shawn Farrell added 47 assists for L.A. Baptist (12-4).
