John Treasure Jones, 87, the last captain of the Cunard liner Queen Mary. He commanded the ship on its 1,000th and final voyage in 1967, from New York to Southampton, England, urging passengers: “Up with the spirits and down with the champagne.†Jones also sailed the Queen Mary to its permanent berth in Long Beach, where it became a hotel and tourist attraction.
